HAD: if they dreamt of a daughter one day without daughters

if they dreamt of a daughter one day without daughters

half-feral, two-hearted. all fire
& earth, sure, also anxiety.

if they dreamt
she'd have a hard time
sitting in chairs & she’d laugh
too loud in restaurants.

if they dreamt of restaurants.

that she smoked for spite, of spite
& pipelines, a whole earth emptied
by guns & young gods.

if my ancestors dreamt
of spreadsheets, if they dreamt
their own apocalypse
& on the other side

a daughter without daughters
who might never know
their names, then i suppose, yes.

they may have dreamt of me.
